LIAG 105 years: Claudia puts NBD Biblion in the spotlight

Wednesday Nov 27, 2024

LIAG is celebrating its 105th anniversary; an impressive milestone that gives us the opportunity to proudly reflect on a rich history while confidently looking ahead to new projects. During this time, we have designed, renovated, or transformed more than 1,050 buildings, always in co-creation with our clients. Our goal is to create environments that prioritize user happiness and add value to society.

To mark this special anniversary, the LIAG team is reflecting on various projects, both past and present. Claudia Wilkinson, responsible for financial administration, chose the NBD Biblion building in Zoetermeer. This organization supports libraries and media libraries by selecting, describing, and providing ready-to-loan media. Claudia explains, “I live nearby and pass the building daily during my walks with the dogs. It reminds me of the great work we do at LIAG. The building isn’t just well-designed – it also tells a story, just like a book.”

What stands out most to her is how the design reflects the identity of NBD Biblion. “It’s all about books here, and that’s clearly reflected in the façade,” Claudia continues. “The horizontal bands resemble bookshelves, while the vertical colored strips evoke the spines of books. At the same time, you could also interpret it as a stack of paper. This makes the design both playful and functional.” She also notes the practical decisions: “For example, the parking spaces are cleverly hidden on the roof, so all attention is drawn to the building itself.”

Beyond the design, Claudia also appreciates the building’s unifying quality. “At LIAG, I have a unique role. But I’m still surrounded by architects, project managers, and BIM modelers, and I get to watch our buildings come to life. That sense of connection is also evident in the NBD Biblion design, where office and production spaces coexist under one roof. A large window connects both departments visually, giving employees a literal and figurative view of each other’s work. It creates a sense of togetherness. It shows that everyone is contributing to something bigger.”
